Early Life

Dr. Kamala Kanta Kalita is the son of Late Tulsi Ram Kalita. He is a resident of 1no. Balasiddhi village, Chaygaon, in the district of Kamrup, Assam. He is married to Jone Kalita. He is about 63 years of age. 

Education

He has MBBS degree from Guwahati Medical College in the year 1981. 

Career and Politics

Dr. Kamala Kanta Kalita is a Doctor. He is the General Secretary of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Chairman of Khadi & Village Industries Board, Assam. 

He is a 4-time MLA from the Chaygaon Assembly constituency. He was elected from the Chaygaon Assembly constituency as an Independent in the year 1985, and on an AGP ticket in the years 1991,1996, and 2006. 

He is also an ex-Cabinet Minister in charge of Health and Family Welfare. 

In the 2011 Assam Assembly election he lost to INC's Rekibuddin Ahmed who bagged 64,307 votes compared to his 48,714 votes. In the following 2016 Assam Assembly election, INC's Rekibuddin Ahmed with 72,211 votes again easily defeated Dr. Kamala Kanta Kalita. The voter turnout that year was 90.77 percent. 

Dr. Kamala Kanta Kalita is fighting the 2021 Assam Assembly election on an AGP ticket from the Chaygaon constituency. This will be his 7th time contesting the Assam Assembly elections.

According to the nomination filed with the Election Commission of India, his and his spouse's moveable assets are worth Rs. 1.71 crores and Rs. 81.92 lakhs respectively and their immovable assets are worth Rs. 89.75 lakhs and Rs. 35 lakhs respectively.
