Early Life

Pulakesh Baruah was born on 15th October 1948 (71 years) to Late Prof. Ishwar Chandra Barua and Late Ambika Barua in Nalbari. He is a resident of Kamarkuchi village, in the district of Nalbari, Assam. He is married to Parul Barua.

Education

He has a Law degree (LL.B) from Gauhati University Law College in the year 1975.

Career and Politics

Palukesh Baruah joined Purbanchaliya Loka Parishad (PLP), a regional party in Assam in 1977 along with prominent leaders such as Late Nibaran Borah, Atul Bora, Pabindra Deka, and Dr. Krishna Gopal Bhattacharjee. During the 6 long years of the Assam Agitation, he participated under AAGSP (All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad) as a member of PLP. 

He joined Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) soon after the Assam Accord of 15th August 1985. He was made the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly from 9th January 1986 – 27th July 1991. 

He was the Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Barkhetry constituency twice, once as an Independent (1985) and once as an AGP candidate (1996). 

In 1991, along with Dinesh Goswami and Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, he formed a party called Natun Ason Gana Parishad (NAGP) which later merged with AGP in 1994. 

One of his notable contributions was solving the chronic flood problem of the Barbhag area of the Nalbari district. He also started a dairy farm project as an employment generation scheme in Barkhetry in 1988 which benefitted the locals of that area. 

He joined AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) on 19th November 2020. 

He will be contesting the upcoming 2021 Assam Assembly election from the constituency of Barkhetry on an AJP ticket. 

Assets

According to the nomination filed with the Election Commission of India, his and his spouse's moveable assets are worth Rs. 7,05,000 and Rs. 2,90,000 respectively and his immovable assets are worth Rs. 1.40 crores.
