Early Life

Shankar Prasad Ray is the son of Late Ajit Narayan Ray. He is about 53 years of age. He is a resident of Borpara, Ward No.5 in the district of Bongaigaon, Assam.

Education

Master of Arts from Gauhati University in the year 1992.

Career and Politics

Shankar Prasad Ray is a legal practitioner. He is former President of the AASU (All Assam Student Union). He was also a member of the BJP for a brief period and was BJP's candidate for the 2016 Assam Assembly election from the Bongaigaon constituency. But after BJP allied with AGP, he resigned from the BJP for having lost his seat to AGP. He joined the Indian National Congress, which fielded him as their candidate to contest the 2016 Assam Assembly election. He lost to AGP's candidate Phani Bhusan Choudhury after having secured 45,972 votes compared to Choudhury's 77,292 votes. Choudhury retained his seat for the 7th consecutive time from the Bongaigaon constituency. The voter turnout that year was 88.68%. 

Shankar Prasad Ray will be again contest the 2021 Assam Assembly election from the Bongaigaon constituency.

According to the nomination filed with the Election Commission of India, his moveable assets are worth Rs. 70,24,253 and his immovable assets are worth Rs. 17 lakhs.
