Civil organizations demand compensation for Santosh Hojai's family & also CBI probe

HAFLONG: To register people's grievances, members of various civil organizations of Dima Hasao staged dharna in front the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao at Haflong on Tuesday. Later, they submitted they submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah through the Deputy Commissioner.

The memorandum stated that in the prevailing situation during to the nationwide lockdown, a group of five unidentified gunmen came in a white Bolero car without number plate to the residence of Santosh Hojai, a businessman at Harangajao in Dima Hasao, and abducted him on April 24 at around 6 pm amidst the heavy security in the locality. Hojai's body was recovered on April 30 along NH 27, around 100 km from his home at Lailing under Langting police station in Dima Hasao. He was brutally murdered.

Immediately after the abduction of Santosh Hojai, his wife Jayanta Hojai along with some neighbours rushed to the Harangajao Police Station to lodge complaint (FIR) against the incident. Unfortunately Officer-in-charge of Harangajao Police Station refused to accept her written complaint (FIR) by stating that her husband would return by night. The next day she again tried to lodge written complaint (FIR) but again the officer in-charge refused to accept her written complaint, stated the memorandum.

After she moved the High Court on April 26, only then her written complain (FIR) was accepted by the Officer-in-charge of Harangajao Police Station.

In this regard, the civil organizations of Dima Hasao urged immediate suspension of the officer in-charge of Harangajao Police Station and compensation of Rs 1 crore to Hojai's family. The civil organizations also demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
