NUMALIGARH: Due to the current outbreak of African swine fever, Bokakhat subdivisional administration has banned sale, purchase and cutting of pork in Bokakhat and other areas under its jurisdiction. A meeting was held in this regard at the office of the Subdivisional Officer (SDO-Civil), Bokakhat on Wednesday. Kaziranga National Park officials, officials of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department, police and other stakeholders were present at the meeting. The issue of African swine fever outbreak in the area was broadly discussed at the meeting.

Subdivisional Magistrate of Bokakhat, Vivek Shyam Pangyok told The Sentinel that the main objective of this meeting was to review and discuss all the measures already taken and to be taken to prevent the outbreak of African swine fever. He said, "Our primary concern is to prevent any possible transmission of African swine fever to the wildlife of Kaziranga National Park. All possible remedial measures have been taken in this regard and Sec144 of CrPC has been also imposed under which certain acts have been prohibited."

As per the order, any movement of pigs on roads, fields and other open areas has been prohibited. People are also prohibited from coming near or in contact to pigs. Sale, purchase and cutting or distribution of pork is also prohibited. Throwing away carcasses of pigs in open areas, fields, rivers and lakes is also strictly prohibited under the order issued by the SDM. The order further stated that hiding of any information from the officials of the Veterinary department or subdivisional administration about disease, death or symptoms of the African swine fever in pigs is also prohibited.
