Husband-Wife duo caught by BIEO for allegedly duping Bank of over Rs 40 lakh plus interest

Guwahati: The Sleuths of the Bureau of Investigation Economic Offences (BIEO) had arrested husband-wife duo on Friday in Dibrugarh for allegedly duping Central Bank of India (Jorhat Branch) of over Rs 40 lakh plus interest.

As per reports, a case was registered against M/S Khirod Timber Stores by the Jorhat Central Bank of India at the BIEO. The complaint states that the proprietor of Khirod Timber Stores identified as Jyotishman Bora along with a co-borrower Pavitra Bora submitted forged and fabricated documents of land records and with an intention to cheating they took a loan from the bank.

Similarly, M/S Maruti Cloth Silk Supplier proprietor Simran Borah (Name Changed) wife of Jyotishman Bora along with another co-borrower identified as Rukmini Bora(name changed) submitted forged and fabricated documents with an intention of cheating took loans from the bank.

The bank authorities after smelling a rat into the matter immediately informed the matter to the BIEO and also registered a case in the month of April 2019.

Speaking in connection to the matter, Additional Superintendent of Police, BIEO, Purabi Mazumdar said, “First Jyotishman Bora took a loan of overdraft limit for Rs 10 lakh....then subsequently enhanced the limit to Rs 25 lakh by submitting forged land records. Similarly, Simran Bora another co-accused and wife of Jyotishman Bora and proprietor of M/S Maruti Silk Cloth Supplier first took overdraft loan of 12 lakh and subsequently enhanced it to 25 lakh.”

Based on the case registered at the BIEO on April 2019, the sleuths of the BIEO conducted an investigation and apprehended the couple-duo from Dibrugarh after getting sufficient shreds of evidence on Friday and produced them before Dibrugarh CJM Court and brought them to Guwahati under transit remand on late Friday night.

It is to be noted that both the accused were booked under section 120B/ 420/406/409/468/471 of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, sleuths of the agency are investigating different aspects and involvement of other persons behind this crime scene.
