Miscreant loots cash Rs 1.5 lakh from Donation Box at Hari Sabha Temple in Sonari

Sonari: In yet another case of burglary in the state, an unidentified miscreant at Namtola area in Sonari loots cash Rs 1.5 lakh rupees from the donation box at Hari Sabha Temple on Wednesday night.

The entire incident had been recorded in the CCTV camera which was installed inside the temple’s premises.

As per the temple’s authority, the miscreant had entered the premises at around 2 am in the midnight hours and looted the amount from the donation box.

The matter came to light this morning after the temple priest saw the donation box was missing from its place and accordingly informed the matter to the temple officials.

The police officials at Sonari police station had launched massive operation drive to nab the culprit.

So far no arrests have been made in connection to the matter.

One must have remembered the sensation theft case at Ugratara Mandir in Guwahati last year in the month of November.

Later, after five months, Golaghat Police acting on a tip-off managed to recover the Ashtadhatu (a blend of eight precious metals) idol of Maa Ugratara and other precious ornaments which were taken away by a gang of thieves on November 17, 2018.

As per police reports, Golaghat police had arrested four people in connection to the incident from Doloigaon under Tihu Police Station in Nalbari District on Tuesday.

The four arrested people were identified as Saan Hussain, Adil Ali, Rahul Ali, Mintu Rai.

Speaking exclusively to The Sentinel Digital earlier, Abhijit Sarma, President APW and a senior member of Ugratara Temple Committee informed that Golaghat police had managed to arrest four people in connection to the theft incident. “The report has been confirmed by the police themselves today morning,” said Abhijit Sarma.

It is to be noted that earlier, a Special Investigation Team constituted to probe into the theft incident.

Meanwhile, the temple priests are on the way to Nalbari for further verification.
