Three Apprehended in Fake Currency Circulation Case in Biswanath

Guwahati: Acting on a tip-off, information was received by Biswanath police that some altercation was going on at NH-15 at Tokowbari under Helem PS over some alleged purchase and sale of FICN (Fake Indian Currency Note).

On receipt of the information, OC Helem PS was directed to rush to the spot.

At the spot, OC Helem and team apprehended Robin Rai, 25 yrs son of Chandra Bahadur Rai, vill+ PS- Hingdam, Dist- South Sikkim.

Also, OC and the team saw two persons running away by the side of nearby railway tracks with a bag.

OC and team chased them and managed to apprehend them.

They are Subhash Rai, 44 yrs, son of Bal Kumar Rai, vill+ PS- Gyalshing/ Geyzing, Dist- West Sikkim and Amit Thapa, 21 yrs, son of Late Dhan Bahadur Thapa, vill- Udaynagar, Bhaktinagar, PS- Bhaktinagar, Dist- Siliguri, State- West Bengal.

From their possession, the following items have been recovered-

  1. Genuine currency notes- Rs. 3.32 lakhs (all 500 rupee notes)
  2. FICN- Rs. 7000 (Total 14 nos of 500 rupee FICN)

All three have been brought to Helem PS for interrogation. During initial interrogation, the three apprehended accused have confessed that they had come to purchase FICN from a Lakhimpur party (4-5 people who had come in an Alto 800 vehicle bearing registration no- (AS-07F-1625). And while the discussion was on regarding purchase of the FICN at Tokowbari on NH-15, the Lakhimpur party attempted to snatch their money bag and that is when an altercation started between them and caught the attention of nearby people.

Meanwhile, the investigation is on to the involvement of the Lakhimpur party. Follow up legal action is being taken.
