Festival of Raksha Bandhan Takes a Patriotic Turn in Punjab
Amritsar, Punjab — In a heartfelt and symbolic gesture ahead of Raksha Bandhan, hundreds of women gathered in Amritsar’s Lohri Gate area on Thursday to send Rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their aim was to express gratitude for his leadership and decisive actions, particularly 'Operation Sindoor', which they hailed as a strong response to cross-border terrorism.
The event, which ran from 10 am to 4 pm, turned into a patriotic celebration, bringing together women from diverse backgrounds.
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, who attended the event, spoke to reporters and underscored the emotional depth of the occasion.
“The women of Amritsar are tying Rakhi to Prime Minister Modi as a mark of respect and gratitude,” Mr Chugh said. “This is not just about a festival, it’s about the special bond between the women of India and the Prime Minister, who they see as a protector of the nation.”
Symbolic Gesture Hails PM Modi's Tough Stance Against Terrorism
Mr Chugh added that the gesture went beyond tradition, serving as a unified message of national pride and resolve.
“The sisters said Prime Minister Modi gave a befitting reply to Pakistan for the killing of innocent civilians. Through bold decisions like the surgical strikes and 'Operation Sindoor', he demonstrated India’s zero tolerance for terrorism,” he added.
Raksha Bandhan, traditionally celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, took on a broader patriotic meaning in this gathering — reflecting the evolving nature of the festival in times of national significance.
The event was not just a celebration of a cultural tradition, but also a unique show of solidarity, gratitude, and strength by the women of Amritsar.
