Assam Floods: CM Lists Relief Measures, Damage Assessment to Begin August 9

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced a series of additional relief and rehabilitation measures for flood-affected families across the state, with damage assessment scheduled to begin from August 9.

Sharing a detailed update on the government’s flood response, Sarma said the relief measures were being implemented on the ground to provide immediate assistance and support the rehabilitation of affected families.

Under the latest measures, the monthly Orunodoi assistance has been increased to Rs 2,500 for one month. Families affected by the floods in Sivasagar and Charaideo will also receive an additional assistance of Rs 10,000.

The government will provide Rs 4 lakh as ex gratia for flood-related deaths without requiring a post-mortem report. Families of those who died will receive an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The state has also announced Rs 15,000 in interim financial assistance for severely affected families. Flood-affected borrowers will get a six-month moratorium on loan repayments, along with an extension of the loan repayment tenure.

Other measures include the waiver of electricity bills and land revenue (Khazana) for eligible flood-affected people.

The government will also provide financial assistance for rebuilding damaged Anganwadi centres and Rs 1.5 lakh for damaged Namghars. Assistance will be provided for replacing textbooks damaged in the floods, while school uniforms will be re-supplied to affected students.

People who lost essential certificates in the floods will also be able to obtain duplicate copies free of cost.

Sarma said the government was focusing on both immediate relief and rehabilitation to ensure that flood-affected families receive the assistance they need as the state continues to recover from the floods.
