Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the state is moving beyond steady growth and is on course to emerge as a major growth engine of India.
Taking to social media site X, the Chief Minister highlighted that Assam is “not just growing” but undergoing a broader transformation, driven by expansion in public spending, infrastructure push and sustained economic momentum.
"As we have completed Financial Year 2025–26, Assam is not just growing — Assam is transforming into a major growth engine of India," he added.
He also said the state’s budget has risen to nearly Rs 2 lakh crore from Rs 1.69 lakh crore, with utilisation levels at around 85 per cent, indicating what he described as disciplined financial management and effective execution.
Sarma also pointed to capital expenditure of about Rs 26,500 crore, saying it continues to strengthen the state’s infrastructure base.
Referring to Government of India projections, he said Assam’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is expected to increase from Rs 7.24 lakh crore to around Rs 8.13 lakh crore in 2026–27.
"Further, as per Government of India estimates, Assam’s GSDP is projected to grow from ₹7.24 lakh crore to ~₹8.13 lakh crore in FY 2026–27, underlining the strong growth momentum," he said.
He further said the figures reflect a shift in Assam’s economic trajectory, positioning the state as an emerging growth engine in the country.
