Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said Assam will be recognised not only for its tea but also for semiconductor production in the coming years.
Addressing a rally in Gogamukh, Modi said that semiconductor manufacturing in the state will boost its technological profile.
“There was a time when Assam was discussed in the world for its tea. Now, Assam will be recognised not only for tea but also for chip,” he added.
He further said chip production from Assam’s upcoming semiconductor plant will support a range of industries, including electronics and automobiles.
“In the coming times, be it phones, cars, TVs or fridges, all these products will run on chips from Assam,” he added.
Commenting on the past decade, the Prime Minister said Assam has seen significant development under the BJP-led governments, adding, “The younger generation has largely witnessed a period of governance marked by stability and progress”.
Referring to the law and order situation, Modi said the state has moved away from a past marked by unrest.
“Many youths have given up violence and are now part of the development process,” he said.
On policy measures, Modi said steps have been taken to ensure dignity and safety for women, while also mentioning proposals such as the Uniform Civil Code and protection of tribal traditions and identity.
He also referred to the BJP’s manifesto released a day earlier, calling it a document aimed at bringing further progress to the state.
