Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA will return to power in Assam for a third consecutive term..

“This ocean of people in front of me, the enthusiasm of the youth, the blessings of the sisters and daughters — this love is an open declaration that this time a hat-trick is certain,” Modi said while addressing a gathering in Gogamukh.

He also referred to his own political journey, saying he had been given the opportunity to serve a third term at the Centre with public support and noted that he was visiting the Gogamukh ground for the third time.

“With your blessings, the government in Assam is also going to achieve a hat-trick,” he said, expressing confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects in the state.

He further highlighted the performance of the state government, Modi said Assam has witnessed a new phase of service and governance over the past decade under the leadership of former chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and incumbent Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“These Assam elections are the election to build a developed Assam for a developed India. This time, the BJP-NDA government is set to complete a hat-trick,” he added.

Taking a swipe at the opposition, the Prime Minister said the Congress is headed for another defeat, adding, "Its leadership is facing repeated electoral setbacks”.
