Kargil Hero aka Retd Indian Army officer Mohammad Sanaullah excluded from final NRC list
Guwahati: Amid criticism from political parties over alleged faulty inclusions and exclusions in the final NRC list, retired Indian Army Officer, Mohammad Sanaullah, could not make it to the final list. He was not included in the list as his appeal against the Foreigner’s Tribunal order was pending at Gauhati High Court.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Retired Army Officer Mohammad Sanaullah said, “I was not expecting my name to be in the list as my case is still pending in the High Court, I have full faith in the judiciary and I'm confident that I will get justice.”
It may be mentioned that Former Indian Army officer Muhammad Sanaullah of village Kalahikash under Boko Police Station in Kamrup district of Assam was declared a foreigner and put in a detention camp. The irony is that till last year Sanaullah was on the job of picking up suspected foreigners and serving them notice.
The Boko Foreigner Tribunal had served notice to Muhammad Sanaullah on September 4, 2018 and declared him a foreigner Tuesday last. According to Kamrup Additional SP Sanjib Saikia, a case was registered in the Foreigner Tribunal, Kamrup, in 2008. After the tribunal’s verdict, he was put in a detention camp in Goalpara. Now the family has decided to go to the Gauhati High Court for justice.
It has also been learnt that his name, along with those of his wife Sadbhanu Bibi, daughters Sehnaj Akhtar, Helmina Akhtar and his son Sahit Ali, were missing in the published complete draft NRC. This is despite the fact that the draft NRC list contained the names of the family members of his two elder brothers – Late Hanif Ali and Barek Ali.
Earlier, Mohammed Sanaullah’s nephew Rajab Ali said that his uncle, Sanaullah was born in Kolohikakh village under Chhaygaon revenue circle in Kamrup district (75 kilometres from Guwahati and 10 Kilometres from Boko) on July 30, 1967. He passed HSLC from Champupara Government High School, Boko in 1985 and went to Chenga College in Barpeta district. After joining the Electronic and Mechanical Engineering branch of Indian Army on May 21, 1987, he retired from service on May 31, 2017. In 2018, he joined as a Sub Inspector in the Assam Police Border branch. He was serving in that capacity at the Baihata Chariali Police station in Kamrup district. Sanaullah had also received a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ from the President of India on September 2, 2014.
Later on June 7, 2019, The Gauhati High Court on Friday granted bail to former army officer and Kargil war veteran Mohammed Sanaullah currently lodged in a detention camp.
