Rajasthan backs move to honour Assamese war hero and inspire youth across India

Guwahati: In a powerful gesture of national unity and cultural pride, the Rajasthan Foundation (Assam & Northeast Chapter) has proposed the installation of statues of the legendary Assamese warrior Lachit Borphukan in Jaipur and Kota.

Lachit Borphukan, the 17th-century Ahom general famed for his heroic resistance against the Mughal Empire during the Battle of Saraighat, is a revered symbol of bravery and patriotism in Assam. The proposed statues in Rajasthan – one in the state capital Jaipur and another in Kota, a hub of academic excellence – mark a significant cultural outreach intended to weave his story into India’s broader historical fabric.

A National Icon in the Making

The proposal has received enthusiastic support from the Rajasthan government. Education Minister Madan Dilawar, known for his nationalist stance and grassroots leadership, has pledged full cooperation. “This is a symbol of unity in diversity,” he noted, adding that public involvement, especially from the Assamese community in Rajasthan, will be central to the effort.

Beyond the statues, a separate proposal aims to introduce Lachit Borphukan’s life and achievements into Rajasthan’s school curriculum. Minister Dilawar assured that a formal recommendation will be made to the Central Government, calling the initiative “a meaningful step towards national integration through education.”

A Legacy Carved in Stone and Spirit

This landmark move is more than just the unveiling of statues – it is a tribute to India’s shared cultural heritage. “Lachit Borphukan’s name will now echo from the plains of Assam to the deserts of Rajasthan,” said Ratan Sharma, Chairman of the Rajasthan Foundation – Assam & Northeast Chapter.
