Manipur: After Two Houses Allegedly Set Ablaze in Senapati District

Guwahati: At the wee hours of Monday, tension prevailed in Taphou village in Manipur’s Senapati district after two houses, reportedly belonging to members of the Naga and Kuki communities, were allegedly set ablaze by armed miscreants .

The incident took place at around 4.30 am when armed people allegedly targeted and set fire to the two houses. The incident triggered concern among residents and prompted police to strengthen security arrangements in and around the village.

Sources said one of the houses belonged to a Kuki family, while the other was occupied by a Naga family. The incident has raised fears of a possible escalation of tensions in the area, which remains sensitive amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur.

Security personnel have been deployed in Taphou and surrounding areas, with security measures intensified to prevent any further escalation. As of  now, there was no official statement from the Manipur government or district authorities. Details regarding the extent of damage, casualties and the identity of those responsible were not immediately available.

The situation remains tense, and the incident is under further assessment.
