Guwahati: Today, Tripura Traffic Police detained more than 100 autorickshaws and e-rickshaws for allegedly violating restrictions on their movement within Agartala city.

Tripura Traffic Police Superintendent Kanta Jangir said restrictions have been imposed on the operation of autorickshaws and e-rickshaws within the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, with a notified operational radius of 15 km.

As per Jangir, vehicles operating outside the AMC area are not permitted to enter or operate within Agartala city. Designated points, including Radhanagar Bus Stand, Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Stand and Nagerjala Bus Stand, have been specified as operational limits.

Traffic  officers said some vehicles continued to enter the city and operate beyond the permitted areas, contributing to traffic congestion and making traffic management more difficult. However, exemptions have been allowed for passengers travelling in emergencies, including students, patients and those requiring urgent medical assistance.

Jangir said the department had conducted awareness programmes, held meetings with auto-rickshaw unions and issued notices to drivers about the restrictions. Despite these measures, several vehicles allegedly continued to violate the rules. During a special enforcement drive on Friday, more than 100 vehicles were detained.
