TUTA Urges Centre to Decide on Tezpur University VC Enquiry Report

Guwahati: The Tezpur University Teachers’ Association (TUTA) has urged the Ministry of Education to take an early decision on the enquiry report concerning alleged irregularities involving Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, saying the prolonged delay has created uncertainty on the university campus.

In a statement issued on Sunday, TUTA said the Ministry constituted a high-level enquiry committee on 31^st December, 2025, and directed Singh to recuse himself from official duties and remain on leave until the enquiry was completed. The committee reportedly submitted its report to the Ministry in May 2026, but no final decision has been communicated to the university.

Following Singh’s resignation , Amarendra Kumar Das was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor and assumed charge on 7^th January . TUTA said academic and administrative activities gradually returned to normal after months of protests.

The association has also raised concerns over Singh’s continued salary. It referred to a Ministry communication dated 7^th August  advising the university to continue releasing his salary pending final adjustment based on the enquiry outcome.

TUTA President Kusum K Bania said more than seven months had passed since the enquiry was initiated and urged the Ministry to bring the matter to a logical conclusion.

The association has also sought clarity on Singh’s official status, leave entitlement and salary, while urging the university to address pending academic and administrative matters.
