Ugratara Temple’s Metallic Lamp Recovered, Police is yet to find the Main Idol

Guwahati: Showing a little ray of hope of finding out the stolen idols of the historic Ugratara temple, police has been able to recover a metallic lamp of the temple. Notably, this metallic lamp was stolen along with the centuries-old astadhatu idol and police, since the day of the theft, have been in constant search of the idol. The metallic lamp is recovered from a scrap yard in the Chabipul area on late Thursday night.

The metallic lamp has been identified by the temple management committee.

In context to the search operations conducted by the Guwahati police in search of the temple idol, it has to be mentioned that police has covered various parts of the city, including below the Saraighat bridges basing on the statement made by the thieves. In fact, some dumping sites too have been taken into account in search of the centuries-old astadhatu idol.

Police states that the apprehended accused have admitted of throwing the idol into the Brahmaputra River. Although this has been said in a statement by the miscreants, police are yet to acknowledge the truth of the statement.

Although the police have been untiringly indulged in the case with several persons being arrested from different parts of the city, an acute solution is yet to be attained. By now, police has arrested Rakesh Kumar Shah, owner of R.K. Jewellers in Paltan Bazar and Firoz Khan who is an employee of the shop.
