Assam: Dibrugarh Police Recover Stolen Japis and Brass Plates, One Arrested

Dibrugarh police recovered 28 stolen Assamese Japis and 9 brass plates from New Market, arresting a suspect. Several other stolen items were also seized.

DIBRUGARH: In a significant breakthrough, the Dibrugarh police, led by TSI Pradip Borah, successfully recovered 28 Assamese traditional Japis and 9 brass plates stolen from New Market. Acting on intelligence, the police conducted a house search at the residence of Md. Ismail in Loharpatty Pathar Lane-4, where they apprehended 25-year-old Altaf Ali, alias Biki, for his involvement in the theft.  

During the operation, the police also found several suspected stolen items, including water pumps, a portable sprayer, cutter machines, a drill, Amaron batteries, angle grinders, a tube well, and a bundle of electrical wires. All the recovered items were seized, and an investigation is ongoing to find their owners and identify others involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, earlier today, a police team arrested two thieves named Nur Hussain (28) of Mayong and Abdul Hafijul Islam (25) of Tarabari. They had been caught red-handed with stolen items at Vidyamandir Path in Bhetapara. Police had seized a Tata Ace (AS01QC4913), eight bundles of iron rods (16mm), two bundles of iron rods (8mm), and a bike (AS01DX7346).  

In a separate incident, a team from Basistha PS with assistance from Khetri PS had arrested a differently abled person for stealing a bike (AS01DL5534) from Bamunpara, Lokhra. The stolen bike and a master key had been seized from his possession. Legal action had been initiated against the accused.
