SRIBHUMI: In a major effort to fight illegal drug trafficking, police carried out an operation at Powamara under Karimganj Police Station in Assam, where they seized 6.2 kg of ganja (cannabis). The operation was based on reliable information, and one person was arrested in connection with the case.

As per police reports, the raid was carried out as part of an ongoing effort to curb the illegal drug trade in the region. The recovered contraband has been confiscated, and legal proceedings against the accused have been initiated.

Meanwhile, the Government Railway Police (GRP) had confiscated 9 kilograms of suspected ganja on January 27, from two passengers traveling aboard the New Delhi Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12423 DN). The operation had occurred at Guwahati Railway Station’s Platform No. 1 during a routine inspection at approximately 7:40 am.

The two passengers had been caught with 13 packets of contraband and had been held for questioning. The GRP had started an investigation to find out where the drugs had come from and where they were going.

Similarly, earlier this month, two women drug peddlers had been arrested by a team of the Special Task Force (STF) Assam on January 12, after raids had been conducted based on credible intelligence. The operation had taken place at two separate places at 14th Mile, which had fallen under the jurisdiction of Sonapur Police Station.
