DIBRUGARH: In preparation for the upcoming Panchayat Elections 2025, the Dibrugarh District Administration has announced stringent prohibitory measures around all designated nomination centres. The directive, issued by Additional District Magistrate (in-charge) Arjit Mahajan is enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and takes effect from April 3, 2025, coinciding with the start of the nomination process as notified by the State Election Commission of Assam.
In order to reduce the chances of crowding and maintain adherence to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the government has put in place various curbs across Dibrugarh District. Importantly, parking of vehicles will not be permitted within a 100-metre radius of any nomination center. Moreover, permission for rallies, events, or public meetings within the same 100-metre area will not be issued.
These steps have been considered necessary to avoid any possible disturbance or incidents that may cause hindrance during the period of nominations. The order has been issued ex-parte due to the urgency of the situation and any violation would result in legal proceedings under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and other relevant laws.
District authorities have called for the cooperation of political parties, candidates, and the public to ensure a peaceful and smooth electoral process.
