DIBRUGARH: In the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, Dibrugarh has been ranked 639th in position nationally among medium cities with population of 50 thousand to 3 lakhs, according to data released by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Dibrugarh achieved full scores in door-to-door waste collection, waste processing, and cleanliness of both residential and market areas as per the city report card. However, the city recorded only 56% in source segregation of waste and scored 0% in cleanliness of water bodies and dumpsite remediation. Public toilet cleanliness was marked at just 17%.

Dibrugarh also made progress this year by attaining a Garbage Free City (GFC) 1-star certification for the first time, along with the other AMRUT cities, viz., Guwahati, Silchar, and Nagaon.

Additionally, North Lakhimpur has been ranked the cleanest city in Assam, while Guwahati and Nagaon have been ranked the 2nd and 3rd cleanest cities in Assam, respectively. Notably, Guwahati has also become the cleanest capital city in Northeast India.

The Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 awards were conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on July 17. The primary goal of Swachh Survekshans is to encourage large-scale citizen participation and create awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities better places to reside in. This year’s Swachh Survekshan not only refined and streamlined the framework for big cities but also simplified it for small cities.
