Itanagar: Interns from the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) on Monday carried out a door-to-door information, education and communication (IEC) campaign on source segregation of waste, reaching over 150 residents across various localities in the Capital Complex.

The awareness campaign covered Chandranagar, Abo Tani Colony, F and G Sectors, Niti Vihar, Kime Pakka Colony, and areas behind IG Park in the capital city.

The initiative was supervised by YMCR vice chairman Keyom Doni, in collaboration with the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society, and supported by the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Limited.

The campaign involved student volunteers from two institutions including, five fourth-semester political science students from Binni Yanga Government Women’s College Lekhi, alongside two education stream students from Government College, Doimukh.

The interns visited both households and commercial establishments, educating citizens on the importance of segregating waste at the source. They distributed informative pamphlets outlining the different types of waste, proper segregation techniques, and appropriate disposal methods.

The team explained the differences between dry, wet, and domestic hazardous waste, and urged residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

Citizens were encouraged to compost wet waste at home, hand over recyclable dry waste such as paper, plastic, and metal to scrap dealers, and allow Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) garbage trucks to collect non-recyclable dry waste.
