2,265 cheating cases registered across different police stations at Guwahati in 2019

GUWAHATI: The graph pertaining to the cases of cheating registered across different police stations in Guwahati is increasing at an alarming rate. The Guwahati Police Commissionerate was formed in 2015, aiming to bring down the increasing rate of crime in the city. However, the three police districts – Central Police District, East Police District and West Police District have witnessed a spiral rise in the number of cheating cases in the last two years. Twenty police stations come under the three police districts. While in 2018, 1338 cases were registered under the 20 police stations, in 2019 the number shot up to 2,265 cases. In 2019, 838 cases were registered in the Central Police District, 389 cases in the West Police District and 1,038 cases in the East Police District. The maximum cases were registered in the East Police District under which comes Dispur PS (519 cases), Hatigaon PS (161 cases), Basistha PS (129 cases), Bhangagarh PS (135 cases), Khetri PS (2 cases) and Sonapur PS (92 cases). Under the Central Police District, Chandmari PS shared the highest number with 262 cases registered throughout the year. Other police stations include Noonmati PS (47 cases), Geetanagar PS (67 cases), Pragjyotishpur PS (9 cases), Satgaon PS (46 cases), Panbazar (135 cases), Paltan Bazar (198 cases), Latasil (69 cases) and All Women PS (5 cases). The five stations under West Police District witnessed the least amount of cheating cases in 2019. Jalukbari PS registered 122 cases followed by Bharalumukh PS (110 cases), Gorchuk PS (82 cases), Fatasil PS (39 cases) and Azara PS (36 cases).
