9,600 bottles of cough syrup seized in Beharbari area

GUWAHATI: Acting on a tip-off, a CID team intercepted a mini truck loaded with 20 cartons of prohibited cough syrup (ESKUF) containing 160 bottles per carton in the Beharbari area under Basista Police Station, Guwahati around 12:45 pm on Thursday.

Police seized the consignment on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses by observing required formalities. In this connection four persons have been picked up for interrogation and necessary legal action.

The four are – Jayanta Kumar Rajbongshi (42), AnathBondhuBhattacharjee (34), Debajyoti Das (29) and 4) RajuKangkhaBanik (32).

In the same operation led by the four arrested persons the CID recovered and seized 40 other cartons containing the same prohibited cough syrup from one of the rooms of a kuttcha house located at Kali Mandir Path, Beharbari under Basista Police Station, Guwahati.

The total seizure is of 9,600 bottles packed in 60 cartons. The estimated market value of the seized consignment of the prohibited cough syrup is Rs. 30 lakh. In this connection, a case has been registered at CID PS.
