Guwahati: Assam down town University (AdtU) marked a significant milestone with its 13th Convocation Ceremony held at the Panikhaiti campus on Friday. The event celebrated the academic journey of the University and saw degrees conferred upon 1,885 graduates, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral scholars. Among the recipients were international students from eight different countries, highlighting AdtU’s growing global engagement.
The convocation was graced by Chief Guest Keshab Mahanta, Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Science and Technology, and General Administration Department, Government of Assam. Special Guest Febin M.F., Head of L&T EduTech, Larsen & Toubro Limited, addressed the gathering, encouraging the graduating class to remain adaptable and curious as they enter a rapidly evolving professional landscape.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the Honorary Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) upon Sarat Kumar Jain, CMD of SM Group and Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Assam State Council, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to business and industry. The convocation also recognized academic and professional excellence within the graduating cohort, including the presentation of the Governor of Assam’s Medal to meritorious graduates.
In his address, Chief Guest Keshab Mahanta extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating students, their proud parents, and dedicated faculty members, celebrating their collective achievements. He praised Assam down town University for its outstanding contributions to higher education, research, innovation, skill development, and human resource development in the Northeast, emphasising the University’s strong academic and industry partnerships, as well as its commitment to career-focused education. He urged the graduates to embrace the responsibilities that accompany their academic accomplishments, encouraging them to apply their knowledge and skills for the betterment of society and the nation.
Special Guest Febin M.F. inspired the Class of 2026 to stay curious, adaptable, and receptive to new opportunities as they step into a dynamic and ever-evolving professional world.
Presenting the University report, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Talukdar emphasised AdtU’s advancements in academics, research, placements, and innovation. He noted that 125 placement drives were conducted over the year, resulting in hundreds of successful placements, while numerous students progressed to higher studies in prestigious institutions in India and abroad. The Vice Chancellor also highlighted significant achievements in research funding, scholarly publications, and patent grants, along with a thriving innovation ecosystem supported by student teams and start-ups.
Chancellor Dr. Narendra Nath Dutta reflected on the university’s growth since its inception in 2010, highlighting that AdtU has conferred over 11,200 degrees across thirteen convocations. He urged graduates to uphold the University’s motto, “Enter to Learn, Go Out to Serve,” and to approach their future endeavors with responsibility and commitment to societal betterment.
