GUWAHATI: With Eid round the corner, the price of mustard oil has witnessed a noticeable increase in the city.
The increase in prices of mustard oil ranges from Rs 5 to Rs 35 per litre, putting an additional burden on common folk.
The price of Sunflower brand of mustard oil rose by Rs 20 per litre, that of the Dhara brand rose by Rs 15 per litre, that of the Gokul brand increased by Rs 10 per litre, while the Anupam and Engine brands of mustard oil increased by Rs 6 per litre.
A retailer said that 3-4 days ago, the price of ordinary brand of mustard oil per litre was Rs 142. However, it stands at Rs 148 per litre at the wholesale rate as on today. Further, he added that the price of mustard oil has gone up by Rs 7-8 per litre, while for refined oil the price has gone up by Rs 5 per litre.
Reacting to the ongoing crisis of mustard oil, a customer said, "Yesterday, I bought a litre of mustard oil for Rs 150, but today I had to pay Rs 160. Jjust see the difference in one day. It is Eid time and if the prices of commodities shoot up like this, then you tell me how we can celebrate the festival?"
