GUWAHATI: The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Assam State Committee appealed to all trade unions to stage protests on July 3 against the 'anti-people and anti-labour policy' taken by the government.

Different Central trade unions, including the AITUC, Assam State Committee and different employees' federations have agreed to observe a protest day on July 3. In a press release, the AITUC, Assam State Committee stated that various central trade unions and employees' federations have decided to stage demonstration against the anti-people and anti- labour policies taken by the government. AITUC, Assam State Committee said, "Rather than declaring the situation as health and medical emergency, the government has suddenly announced the lockdown by taking the pandemic situation as law-and-order issue. The government is continuously supporting the corporate sectors by snatching the rights of the labourers, one after another."

AITUC, Assam State Committee general secretary Ramen Das said, "We demand the government to provide a total of Rs 7,500 for 6 months to each family of labourers and farmers. The families should be helped regardless of the fact that they have ration cards or not. The government must provide free-of-cost essential items to the needy people."
