GUWAHATI: "For the last four-and-a-half years the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government is making various promises. The party and the government also gave assurances from their election manifesto, vision documents and their budget speech. It should make the public aware about the fulfillment of these promises," demanded the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) on Friday.

In a statement, AIUDF general secretary Haider Hussain Bora underlined that the government's tenure is about to end but it is announcing new schemes everyday.

"The State BJP has announced various schemes in the vision documents, election manifesto and budget speeches but how many such schemes have been implemented?" questioned Bora.

He stressed that the country cannot run with promises and the condition of people in Assam people deteriorating.

"In every step people have to face difficulties. The prices of commodities are surging and unemployment and poverty is increasing rapidly. The government is not being able to support these people," he stated.

Further, the leader took a jibe at the government's 'zero tolerance' policy towards corruption. He said the government only talks about zero tolerance but the reality of the policy was highlighted in the SI recruitment scam.

"After public demand, the inquiry in the SI scam is underway. Many middlemen and police officers have been arrested but the government is trying to save the BJP leaders who are involved with the scam. Earlier, there were reports in the media about scam in the Irrigation Department and Panchayat & Rural Development Department recruitments. But no inquiry was conducted," Bora alleged.

He asserted that the government is not motivated to eradicate corruption.

"They are only trying to win the forthcoming polls by making false promises and delivering communal statements. This time the public is aware and they will give a proper answer to the government in the upcoming polls. This public will dethrone the government," he added.
