Guwahati: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) launched an attack on the Assam government on Sunday, alleging targeted and politically motivated eviction drives in area like Goalpara, Dhubri, Kachutoli and nearby areas. At a press conference held at the party headquarters in Guwahati, senior AIUDF legislators accused the BJP-led state administration of using forest conservation as a cover to displace Muslim communities.
MLA Rafiqul Islam called the evictions "inhumane and unconstitutional," claiming that the state government flouted court orders by conducting evictions during the judiciary’s vacation. He said many of the evicted families were legal residents paying land revenue for decades and accused the Forest Department of failing to produce proper land documents in court.
Islam demanded that the state government allot at least seven bighas of land to each displaced family, citing a previous promise allegedly made by Chief Minister in the Assembly.
AIUDF general secretary Aminul Islam claimed the evictions were part of a broader plan to clear land for corporate interests, particularly accusing the government of favouring industrialists like Adani. He criticized the use of bulldozers against residents of revenue villages, many of whom possess land documents, and alleged that communal tensions are being used as a political tool ahead of the 2026 elections.
