The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has raised an alarm over what it describes as a coordinated smear campaign against its candidate for the Guwahati Central Assembly constituency, Kunki Choudhury, alleging that misleading images and false narratives are being deliberately circulated to damage her reputation ahead of the 2026 elections.
In a formal statement, AJP vice president Samsher Singh and secretary Ziaur Rahman condemned the campaign and called on political competitors to engage on the basis of policies and public service — not personal attacks.

The AJP described Choudhury as a young, highly educated candidate representing a new generation of Assamese politics, saying she has received strong public support since her candidature was announced.
The party framed the alleged smear campaign as a direct response to her growing popularity, suggesting that certain vested interests, unsettled by her momentum, have turned to unethical tactics to contain it.
According to the AJP, the campaign against Choudhury includes misleading images and fabricated narratives being spread across both mainstream and social media, aimed at maligning her personal reputation and that of her family.
The party called the tactics "deeply condemnable," saying they go beyond an attack on a single candidate and strike at the foundations of democratic competition itself.
"Political competition must be based on principles, policies, and public service — not on personal attacks, slander, or intimidation," Singh and Rahman said in the statement.
The AJP also invoked a broader cultural argument, stating that targeting a candidate's family or personal life runs contrary to the ethos of Assamese society — one it described as grounded in dignity, respect, and fairness.
The party stopped short of naming any specific individual or organisation behind the alleged campaign, but made clear it intends to continue backing Choudhury's candidature in Guwahati Central.
