All Assam Students Union (AASU) Scorns At Mominul Aowal’s Allegations

GUWAHATI: Refuting Assam Minority Development Board AMDB chairman Mominul Aowal’s allegations over All Assam Students Union (AASU)’s lack of interest over the present NRC situation, AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi questioned Aowal’s intentions as a former AASU leader himself.

Addressing the press on Thursday, Gogoi said, “Such strong comments as made by Aowal raises serious doubts about his intentions as a former AASU leader himself. Regarding our stance over the foreigners, we have been crystal clear that the cutoff date for foreigner’s identification is March 25, 1971. The people who have infiltrated after the said cutoff date are foreigners and will have to leave the State but Aowal is sympathetic towards the linguistic minorities who came after the cutoff date. There is no difference between Congress, AIUDF and BJP parties. Congress and AIUDF are always cooking up politics through the religious and the BJP is doing the same with linguistic minorities.”

“Aowal claimed on Wednesday that AASU had a meeting with the then Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi over the documents mandated for NRC and the decision had various loopholes, which made it possible for the infiltrators to have their names included in the list. We would like to clarify that it was not just AASU but various other organizations who met with the ex CM to discuss the matter, after which the decision was finally taken”, said Gogoi.

“It is obnoxious that Aowal made sardonic remarks over a long ago taken picture of AASU with Rahul Gandhi. We would like to ask, the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had also met with Sonia Gandhi when he was AASU president and posed for a photograph. So what could be his intentions behind clicking the picture?,” questioned the general secretary of AASU.
