GUWAHATI: Four AICC (All India Congress Committee) secretaries who have been attached to the general secretary of the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) – Aniruddha Singh, Vikash Upadhyay, Prithviraj Prabhakar Sathe and Aditya Sarma – had a meeting with the State Congress leaders in a hotel here on Wednesday. Issues like the forthcoming Assembly election in the State and the problems which the party has been confronting were discussed at the meeting.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Aniruddha Singh said, "We had a marathon meeting with the State party MPs and MLAs to device a way to fight the next Assembly election in the State. The BJP may claim anything, but the Congress will come out winner in the long run. The good work done by Late TarunGogoi's governments in the past 15 years won't be done in the State by any other government."

When asked on coalition with the AIUDF, Singh said, "It's the party high command that decides issues like alliance and allies and the time of stitching alliance. We're interacting with grassroots-level party workers on this front."

When asked on the news of a number of Congress leaders, including former Minister Ajanta Neog, joining the BJP Singh said, "No Congress leader is joining the BJP. It's the BJP's game plan to spread such rumours. Ajanta Neog is not present at today's meeting as she's unwell due to post-COVID weakness."

APCC president Ripun, who was also present at the press meet, said, "Two major decisions were taken at today's meeting. We're going to start a tirade against the hike in prices of essential commodities, besides petrol and diesel. We'll announce the date for agitation later. From the first week of January we'll hold booth sanmilans in each of the 126 LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) in the State. Top leaders of the party will address such rallies. There'll be no such rallies during the Bihu days."
