GUWAHATI: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will celebrate its 18th foundation day on Monday with a series of programmes. AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said in this connection that the party was formed on October 3, 2005 with a view to safeguard the rights of downtrodden citizens and ensure their equitable development.
He said that the party, which was established under the Constitution and the democratic system, has stood by the people of Assam for the last 17 years. The party has been raising various issues in the interest of the people of Assam in both the Assam Legislative Assembly as well as Parliament, Ajmal said.
The AIUDF supremo further said that at a time when other political parties have been either oppressing the minority community or using it for political gain, his party has been working for their welfare and development. The party will continue to work for the marginalized groups, Ajmal added. It may be mentioned that the foundation day will be celebrated by various district and constituency-level committees of the party through flag-hoisting, tree plantation drives, distribution of fruits in hospitals etc.
Meanwhile, Ajmal also expressed grief at the demise in a boat mishap of the Circle Officer of Dhubri, Sanju Das, whose body was recovered on Sunday. He urged the Government to provide all possible aid to the bereaved family as per rules and also appoint one of them in government service.
