GUWAHATI: In a heartfelt gesture to preserve the cultural and intellectual legacy of her late husband, Mina Paul, wife of noted artiste and film connoisseur Kiron Shankar Roy, donated more than 100 books and journals, and film CDs to the Departmental Library of the Department of Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies at Cotton University.

To mark the occasion, a thanksgiving event was organized on the university premises, where Paul was felicitated for her generous contribution and her enduring commitment to her husband’s memory. The collection, comprising valuable titles on cinema, visual culture, and media studies, is expected to be a significant academic resource for students, research scholars, and faculty members for years to come.

Speaking on the occasion, Paul expressed her emotions, stating, “I want my husband’s collections to be a resource for the future generation. And I know that all his assets will be stored with respect in the Department. I am very happy today for such recognition in memory of my husband.”

The event witnessed the presence of several eminent personalities from Assam’s cultural and academic landscape, including renowned film researcher and activist Nayan Prasad, award-winning documentary filmmaker Dip Bhuyan, eminent bonsai and woodcraft artist Labu Senapati, and photojournalist Chinmoy Roy. The Head of the Department, Dr Sayanika Dutta, along with faculty members and research scholars, also attended the programme.

Kiron Shankar Roy remembered for his passionate engagement with cinema and the arts, had significantly contributed to the cultural and academic fabric of Assam and beyond. An important part of his personal library, now housed in Cotton University, stands as a testament to his lifelong dedication to the world of film and aesthetics.

The Department extended its deep appreciation to Mina Paul for her invaluable donation, which is poised to inspire and benefit generations of learners.
