Guwahati: In a proud moment for the North Eastern Region, Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, was conferred the prestigious title of ‘Honorary Colonel’ and appointed Colonel Commandant of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) during a Rank Pipping Ceremony held on Friday at the university campus. The Government of India bestowed the honour in recognition of Prof. Deka’s exemplary contribution to youth development and unwavering support for NCC initiatives. He is the only Vice Chancellor in the Northeast to receive this recognition in 2025.

The ceremony was marked by the enthusiastic participation of cadets from the 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC and 50 Assam Air Squadron NCC, showcasing a disciplined and spirited display. Cadet anchors led the event, adding to the ceremonial grandeur.

Brigadier Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM, who officiated the ceremony, praised Prof. Deka’s commitment to youth empowerment. “This honour reflects more than ceremonial recognition—it acknowledges Prof. Deka’s dedication to nation-building through education and leadership. His new role will undoubtedly inspire young cadets to pursue excellence in both academics and service,” he said.
