Arup Kumar Dutta on ‘Assam At A Crossroad’ At Vivekananda Kendra, Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Renowned writer, columnist and Padma Shri awardee Arup Kumar Dutta will deliver the 15th Brajamohan Sarma Memorial Annual Lecture on “Assam at a Crossroad” at Vivekananda Kendra, Guwahati on 28th September (Saturday) at 11 A.M. The lecture acquires significance in light of the prevailing socio-political environment in Assam and Arup Kumar Dutta is expected to enlighten us on the issue of Assamese Nationalism and its present status.

The Brajamohan Sarma Memorial Trust, Guwahati organizes such lecture every year in the memory of late Brajamohan Sarma, former advocate of Gauhati High Court and a flag bearer of the weaker sections of the society, to build up public awareness and mobilize public opinion on contemporary issues concerning the citizen in general and the downtrodden of the society in particular. It has been organizing the annual event since his demise in 2004. This would be the 15th such lecture.

While Dr Prabhat Patnaik of Jawaharlal Nehru University delivered the first lecture in the series in 2005 on the topic – “The Judiciary and the Empowerment of the people”; the lecture series saw many illuminated names like Sitaram Yechury, Prof. Jayati Ghosh, Prof. Malini Bhattacharjee, Brinda Karat, Siddhartha Varadarajan, Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty, Justice (Retd) D. N. Chowdhury, Padmashree Patricia Mukhim, Dr Hiren Gohain, Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Prof. Emeritus Utsa Patnaik, Shri P Sainath and Shri Udayan Misra delivering valuable lectures on wide-ranging topics.
