Asom Sangrami Mancha slams Bengali organizations for demanding separate council

GUWAHATI: Asom Sangrami Mancha (ASM) slammed the Bengali organizations, who are demanding a separate satellite council and 20 reserved seats at the Assam Legislative Assembly. Addressing a press meet here on Monday, ASM said that at a time when a high-level committee is suggesting measures to the center, for the constitutional safeguard of Assamese people, the demands of these 10 organizations are ominous. The Mancha said that Clause 6 aims to preserve the linguistic, cultural and political identity of the people of Assam. ASM said that there are already 19.3 crore Bengali speaking people in the world. In West Bengal, Jharkhand, Tripura and Assam, they are living without any discrimination. There is no need for a separate council and even Assamese people living in other states have never made such demands.

The Mancha further claimed that they suspect that the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is backing up these organizations. The BJP-led government has introduced the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) to give citizenship to Bengali Hindus, thus, in the same manner, these organizations are demanding political reservation along with a separate council.
