Assam: A Tribute to Kulen Goswami
We feel the pain of the death of a person when its cruel hands fall on our loved ones. Getting the news of the unexpected demise of Kulen Goswami on 19th June, 2025, I was deeply saddened and shocked. Only a few days back he had come to our residence and gossiped with us in his usual humour and pleasant discourses. I came in contact with Kulen Goswami way back in 1964 when my eldest sister, Late Bibha Goswami, got married to his eldest brother, Late Dinesh Goswami. With his simplicity and charming personality, he could attract one and all at the very first instance. He was deeply pious and always engaged in religious rituals. While in service on the Board of Sports, Assam, he wholeheartedly worked there, and after retirement from there, he engaged himself in various social activities, especially in religious functions and spirituality. He was known for his amiable dispositions, endearing himself to all. On his untimely demise, the residents of Bharalumukh, Guwahati, lost a noble soul. He left behind two sons and as many daughters-in-law and grandchildren. I console myself on his death with the sayings of Socrates – “Be of good cheer about death and know this of a truth, that no evil can happen to a good man either in life or after death” – and that as Milton said – “Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity.”
Remembering Kulen Goswami on this day (June 28, 2025) of his Adya Shraddha, I pay my respectful homage to him. Let his noble soul rest in eternal peace.
