Guwahati: The Assam Bodhir Sangram Parishad (ABSP) observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities as a 'protarona divas' (day of deception) near Digholipukhuri highlighting the need for inclusive policies and equal opportunities for specially-abled individuals. However, despite the observance, the specially abled people of Assam have been facing significant challenges, with many not receiving facilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016.
The Deendayal Divyang Upadhyay pension scheme and Orunudoi scheme have been clubbed, creating a negative situation for them. The specially abled community has submitted 17 demands to the government, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities. Disabled persons should be recruited in each office of the state. Reserved posts for specially abled person in all government positions in the state offices should be filled through a special recruitment drive.
