GUWAHATI: Assam Accord Implementation Minister Atul Bora said that the State government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been working overtime to implement the recommendations of the Justice (Rtd.) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission within the stipulated time. The Implementation of Assam Accord Department on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement, which was a six-year-long agitation that shook the state from 1979 to 1985.

At the Martyrs’ Day, held at Paschim Baragaon in Guwahati, Minister Atul Bora, along with other dignitaries, offered flowers to the first martyr, Khargeswar Talukdar, and 860 other brave sons of Assam who sacrificed their lives. The event also saw the release of the sixth collection of the “Axom Andolanor Tothyokosh.”

Minister Bora further said that CM Sarma has been wholeheartedly laying stress on the implementation of various clauses of the historic Assam Accord that can be implemented by the state government on its own.

Speaking on the occasion, Bora reiterated his government’s commitment to fulfilling the provisions of the Assam Accord, which was signed in 1985. He also reviewed the progress of the construction of the “Shaheed Smarak and Shaheed Uddyan” being built in memory of the martyrs of the Assam Movement.

The event was attended by family members of the martyrs and several dignitaries, including ministers of the Assam government, Ranjeet Kumar Dass and Chandra Mohan Patowary.
