Guwahati: Assam government has issued a stringent order making it mandatory for all schools, including government, provincialized, private, and other institutions from Lower Primary (LP) to Higher Secondary (HS) level, to obtain a UDISE (Unified District Information System for Education) code without exception.

The directive, issued by the Department of School Education, comes in response to reports that several schools are still operating without the mandatory UDISE code. The department has now made it compulsory for all such defaulting institutions to acquire the code immediately.

The order states, “All category of schools under the jurisdiction of respective Directorates, including private schools, must be assigned a UDISE code immediately.” It further warns that failure to comply will be viewed seriously and that appropriate accountability will be fixed against the concerned school officials.

The responsibility for enforcement lies with the Directorates under School Education, Inspectors of Schools, District Elementary Education Officers (DEEOs), and Block Elementary Education Officers (BEEOs) across all districts.

UDISE is a critical data system used to collect comprehensive information about schools, helping the government and other agencies in policy formulation, monitoring, and planning for quality education.
