Guwahati: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), Division-II, is bringing about major changes in its curriculum starting from the academic session 2025-26. Priority has been given to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 while designing these changes in the new academic calendar.
The changes have been made in the curriculum of class XI and class XII. Accordingly, the revised curriculum will be effective from the academic session 2025-26 for Class-XI (HS 1st Year) and from 2026-27 for Class-XII (HS 2nd Year).
For the students of Arts, Science and Commerce streams, the subjects English and MIL/Alt. English are compulsory to pass. They have to select another four subjects. It is a must for the students to appear in six subjects in HS course curricula, and their result will be declared as passed only if the students secure 33% of marks in aggregate, in spite of the fact that even if he/she fails in one subject out of the four elective subjects. For a subject having practical/project parts, the minimum pass marks shall be 33% of the marks allocated to the theory part and 33% of the marks allocated to the practical/project part. However, passing in English and MIL/Alt. English is compulsory.
ASSEB Div-II will award subject-wise grades to the candidates in class XI from the academic year 2025-26 & in Class XII Final Examinations from the academic year 2026-27 along with the marks secured by them in each subject.
Three new subjects will be introduced in class XI from academic year 2025-26 and from next year (2026-27) in class XII in the colleges and schools where willing and competent teachers are available. Sign language will be introduced in colleges and schools where a teacher or resource person is available who has a B.Ed. in special education. Any such competent teacher available in any primary or upper primary or high school or resource person of SSA, he or she may take classes of this subject in nearby Higher Secondary School (HSS) or Senior Secondary School (SSS) or college. The training of these teachers on sign language will be provided by ASSEB only after enrolment of students in class XI.
Similarly, the subjects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Financial Literacy will be introduced in colleges and schools where teachers or resource persons are available and have a personal interest in this subject. The training of these teachers on the artificial intelligence subject will be provided by ASSEB at IIT Guwahati from May 14, 2025.
Moreover, the Vocational Stream has been replaced by Skill Subject from the academic session of 2025-2026. The subjects offered under the Vocational Stream will be offered as skill subjects in integration with academic electives as per the guidelines of NEP-2020.
It is also mentioned that a student or an institute shall be treated as of the science stream if the subject is opted for by the student or offered by the institution in any one of the subjects from Physics, Chemistry & Biology. A student or an institute shall be treated as of the commerce stream if the subjects of Accountancy and Business Studies are opted for by the student or offered by the institution.
