Guwahati: Riding the momentum of a sweeping victory in the recent Panchayat elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, has pivoted sharply to the forthcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls initiating full-scale preparations. According to a statement issued by BJP's chief spokesperson Manoj Baruah, the party-under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP President Dilip Saikia-has already crafted an aggressive election roadmap aimed at consolidating its presence across the BTR.
A high-level organizational meeting was convened on Thursday at the BJP State Headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, to chalk out detailed strategies for the elections. The meeting was attended by top state leadership, including CM Dr. Sarma, state BJP president Saikia, state BJP general secretary Ravindra Raju, and key members of the BTR strategy committee.
As per the party's action plan, each of the five BTR districts, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, and Udalguri, will be overseen by a cabinet minister and a senior party functionary. These leaders will undertake extensive tours over the next ten days to evaluate ground-level political and organizational conditions.
Specific responsibilities have been allocated to senior leaders for each of the five BTR districts. In Kokrajhar, Minister Ashok Singhal and general secretary Diplu Ranjan Sharma will lead the efforts, while Chirang will be overseen by Minister Kaushik Rai and secretary Ajay Rai. For Baksa, Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass has been paired with vice president Ashok Bhattarai. Tamulpur will see the leadership of Minister Jayantamalla Baruah alongside general secretary Pulak Gohain. Meanwhile, in Udalguri, Minister Pijush Hazarika and general secretary Pallab Lochan Das have been entrusted with the responsibility of steering the party's groundwork.
