GUWAHATI: The state BJP announced on Saturday that preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state were going on at full speed and organizational work was being done from the state to the booth level.

State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita said, “We are ready for the elections. Our organizational work in the state is proceeding smoothly. We have already completed Booth Sashaktikaran Abhiyan. Now we will hold a Prsitha Pramukh (page in charge of voters’ list) meeting. Along with this, we are holding discussions with our allies—the UPPL and AGP. After Durga Puja, we will organize an election-specific meet with the alliance parties.” He also informed that chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would be present at the meeting.

Replying to a reporter’s question on the subject of seat-sharing, Kalita said, “No discussions on seat-sharing are being held at the moment. This will be done later.”

Reacting to a query from the media regarding the Assam Congress’ list of 84 probable candidates that was released on Thursday, the state BJP president quipped, “The Congress’ list of candidates made us laugh. Not a single one of them will win in the respective constituencies. I was surprised that Bhupen Borah’s name did not figure in the list. As he is not an MLA, we thought he would be contesting in a MP seat this time.”

Bhabesh Kalita then proceeded to heap praise on the BJP government, contrasting the picture of development in the state during the BJP and Congress rules.

Kalita also stated, “During the BJP’s rule under the leadership of CM Sarma, peace and development are being witnessed in Assam. During the time of the Congress, there was only corruption in every sphere, including the APSC and other scams. There was no development in the rural areas. Broken bridges remained broken. But now, RCC bridges can be seen everywhere in rural areas. Even the constituencies of the Congress MLAs have seen development.”
