GUWAHATI: Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota on Saturday attended the inaugural session of the International Bio-manufacturing Summit 2025 at Gauhati University as the chief guest, marking a significant milestone in the state’s push towards becoming a leader in the bio-manufacturing sector.

In his address, Dr. Ravi Kota emphasized the alignment of Assam’s bio-manufacturing initiatives with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a Viksit Bharat 2047. Dr. Kota reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam government is committed to nurturing bio-manufacturing start-ups by enhancing the state’s logistics and infrastructure.

The summit was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta; Dr. Alka Sharma, senior adviser at the Department of Biotechnology (DBT); among others.

Dr. Kota also remarked on making curd from milk, a traditional practice followed by households for generations.

After the inaugural session, Dr. Kota also took part in a productive brainstorming session with researchers and industry representatives from both India and abroad. Several key resolutions were made to accelerate Assam’s bio-manufacturing growth. These included plans for the Assam Government to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, to position Assam as a leading bio-manufacturing hub.
