Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday discussed key issues of employees in a meeting with a delegation of the newly elected committee members of the Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP), led by its president Dwipen Sarma and secretary general Pankaj Barman.
During the meeting, several key matters aimed at addressing the needs and aspirations of the employees of the state government were discussed. These included the proposed amendments to service rules, the enhancement of the Apun Ghar housing scheme, and the age of retirement for government employees.
The need for cashless treatment facilities at health institutions for government employees and their dependents was another focus of the discussion, alongside other critical concerns that significantly impact the welfare and interests of the state's workforce.
The delegates of the SAKP expressed their appreciation to the Chief Minister for his proactive approach and openness to hear and address their concerns. CM Sarma stated that the submissions of the delegates would be deliberated upon and reiterated his government's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the state's employees.
Talking to The Sentinel, SAKP secretary general Pankaj Barman said, "The Chief Minister assured our delegation that the zero premium insurance coverage policy will be started on April 1, 2025. The CM also stated that 13,000 muster roll employees will receive a bonus for house rent. Employees who were appointed as per advertisements published prior to the implementation of the National Pension System (NPS) in 2005 will receive their pension under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). For this purpose, an office memorandum would be issued in this month itself, the CM assured us."
It was also announced by the CM that the employees who are graduates will receive graduation-level salaries, the SAKP leader said.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister K. K. Dwivedi, and other senior officials of the state government.
