Guwahati: The state Cultural Affairs Department has constituted a jury committee to scrutinize and approve grants of Rs 10 lakh each for Assamese films. The initiative, part of the Budget 2024 announcements, aims to make regional cinema more competitive and commercially viable.
The jury, appointed for a three-year term, will be chaired by the Director of Cultural Affairs (DCA), Assam, with the Managing Director of the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Limited (ASFFDCL) serving as the member-secretary.
An officer from the Cultural Affairs Department, in addition to officials, the panel includes Vidya Sagar, Simanta Shekhar, Manju Borah, Dr. Sanjive Narain, Aimee Baruah, Atanu Bhuyan, Dhruba Jyoti Phukan, Dr. Bimal Krishna Sarma, and Kishore Sarma. Their collective expertise is expected to ensure fair selection and effective use of the financial aid.
