GUWAHATI: There seems to be confusion among teachers and students over certain decisions taken by the State Education Department recently.
On September 29, 2021, the SSA (Samagra Siksha, Assam) sent a letter to school authorities asking teachers to download the RIIMS App. This App will let the government observe the attendance of teachers and other staff. However, teachers are not in favour of downloading this App, calling it a move that will "infringe on their privacy". The fact that teachers were not consulted by SSA before issuing the order has caused much resentment among the teaching community.
Meanwhile, the Secondary Education Department, Government of Assam, has directed that annual exams in schools must be conducted in February 2022. On the other hand, Samagra Siksha, Assam had written a letter to the Inspectors of Schools dated 21.10.2021, stating that the Government of Assam had decided to conduct Gunotsav during February 2022. Accordingly, the Inspectors of Schools have been asked to update the student and teacher database in www.axomssa.com by October 31, 2021. Teachers and students alike are not left wondering how it will be possible to conduct both Gunotsav and the annual examination in the same month?
The Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) has also notified that the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC)/Assam High Madrassa (AHM) exam will be held in March 2022. All these notifications and orders have left the teachers and students confused.
